                                                 Name:  Andy Sloane

Current Rank: Go Dan

                                                                                             2013 Student of the Year

Andy began training in Isshin-ryu at Karate USA as a freshman at Northwood High School on November 1, 1993 at the age of 14.  2013 marks his 20th anniversary in Isshin-ryu karate.

Andy moved to the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex in May 1994 because his step-fatherís job transferred. He completed high school in McKinney, TX and received his Associate of Science degree from Collin County Community College, but he never stopped going to Karate USA whenever his school and work schedules allowed over the years because the majority of his family still lives in the Shreveport area. To this day, he still visits his Karate USA family as often as he is able.

He was promoted to all of his kyu ranks except for two (7th kyu and 1st kyu) by Sensei Harvey Kennedy and/or his assistant instructors. While still in high school he began teaching in February 1997. A tournament competitor since April 1994, in addition to various karate tournaments in Texas and Oklahoma, he competed in all Karate USA-sponsored tournaments between November 1999 and April 2008.

Andy enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 2006. He is presently a Petty Officer Second Class (E5) and works as a Yeoman, which is a naval secretary. He has taught Isshin-ryu karate at every duty station he has had: Oklahoma City, OK (Sep 2006 to May 2008); Okinawa, Japan (June 2008 to June 2012); Seoul, South Korea (June 2012 to present). He presently has 18 active students in Korea.

Hopefully Andy will be able to come home to Shreveport over the holidays and help teach class. Read his full biography and accomplishments on the bulletin board at the dojo.

Congratulations Andy!
